Since we are quite old in the knees, we decided to take the Electric Bus No 2 (not Noddy and friends) up the hill and walk down from it. There are a number of feeder busses on a circulatory route around Namsan. Since Rain will be going there for second time, the plan includes looking for Hanook Village (think Jewel in the Palace) at the same time.
I thought nothing could beat Yeouido, but I was so wrong. Namsan is like Yeouido x 10 minus all the pesky tourists. Probably no tour will give their tourist the luxury of walking down the mountain at your own pace. Many Koreans are avid climbers, they dressed up like they are going KK, with hiking boots, wind breakers and walking stick. Me? I just wear jeans, T-shirt, jacket and sneakers. I dunno why they need hiking gear, it's a big winding road that can fit a bus. Of course Rain bundled herself up like a dumpling - said I am cold blooded to just be wearing t-shirt and jeans in 13 degree.
Winding down the hills, the sakura line up greeting you
All the way downhill, we feast our eyes with the lovely sakura and our nose with the wonderful sakura scent. We met many locals along the way with their dogs and they are unleashed. Very obedient dogs too. The dogs enjoyed it too, I can tell cause they were running all over the place. Some even pooped out of joy. Lucky the owners have sense to bring newspaper to wrap poop home.
On the way down, we saw an off beaten path winding away from the main road. Since some locals use the route, we decided to veer off and see what's what. It was like the road to the Shire (think Frodo of LOTR). I half expected to find Legolas bathing in the stream nearby hor..but I only found tadpoles. It seemed like the scenary was entirely created by nature and not by careful selection of the garderner. I really love this place, we spent a satisfying amount of time walking up and down the path and Cousin Rain sneaked a picture of me.
The path home
I like it so much I blogged it, facebook it (later) and put it as my profile. No one says I am not Narccissit. We took so many photos of sakura, flower, forest, tadpoles until I think I can do those motivational slides that you receive in forward emails.
After a satisfying walk downhill, we realize we forgot to look for the Hanook Village. Ops..
